We Asked “Is Your Home Ready for Aging in Place?” Georgetown Seniors Came Looking for Answers!

If you’re like many seniors, you’d love to remain in your home forever. With proper planning, you may live comfortably and safely as you age. To assist seniors in Georgetown, TX, in evaluating their home’s readiness, Seniors Living Smarter hosted our May seminar, “Is Your Home Ready for Aging in Place? on Thursday, May 12.

Dozens of seniors attended as we provided vital information from expert sources in the senior service industry. I served as host and also provided insights as a Certified Senior Downsizing Coach.

Panelists included Megan Frazier, an occupational therapist and owner of Functional Stability and Mobility; Bill McHugh, certified aging in place specialist and owner of Tier1 Group; and Eric Medford, Veteran Service Officer, Williamson County.

Among the many topics we addressed:

  • How and when to have your home evaluated for safety
  • Simple updates like rails, rug/trip hazard removal, and bathroom updates to help with fall prevention
  • Options for more extensive modifications for accessibility like elevator lifts, ramps, widening of doorways
  • Sources of qualified professionals who can help with evaluations and modifications.
