As seniors experience the third act of their lives and its opportunities for pursuing wisdom, achieving our full potential, and leaving some kind of legacy, many may also feel a growing sense of worry and concern about what the future might be. At the start of this new year, Georgetown seniors joined us on Thursday, January 13, for our live Seniors Living Smarter Seminar: “Giving You & Your Family Peace of Mind,” to learn tips, strategies, and resources for maintaining peace of mind for seniors and their families including:
• What gives you peace of mind?
• What should you plan for?
• How do you go about planning?
• What resources are available?
The seminar was hosted by me, Virginia Lazenby, Certified Senior Downsizing Coach and Texas REALTOR. Assisting in the discussion was Penny Leone, RN, who is the Parish Nurse, First Presbyterian Church. Penny shared a vast knowledge of resources and services available to Georgetown seniors. Topics discussed included Organizing Your Information, Local Resources, Driving/Transportation, Senior Living Options, Hospice and Leaving Your Legacy.
Dozens attended, attracted by the opportunity to meet and mingle with other seniors, while observing strict health precautions. Upon arrival, they received branded Seniors Living Smarter Seminar Resource Binders, loaded with the year-long calendar of seminar dates and topics as well as helpful documents related to achieving peace of mind. Attendees are urged to bring their binders each month to keep them current on topics and actively participate in the monthly discussions.
Seniors Living Smarter Seminars are hosted on the second Thursday of every month at a new location — McKinney Christian Ministry Center, 1205 Ash Street, Georgetown, on the First Methodist Church Campus. You may register online at Seniors Living Smarter Seminars. The goal of the free seminars is to equip, educate, and inspire seniors to make informed choices and empowered decisions concerning their lifestyle goals. Seminars are sponsored by Visiting Angels, Wesleyan Homes, Vera Bank and Seniors Living Smarter Services.
The next seminar will be presented on Thursday, February 10 — the topic is Real Estate Market Update. Registration is accepted online at Seniors Living Smarter Seminars or call 512-862-7339 and leave a message.
