In Texas, homeowners are entitled to a variety of partial or total exemptions from appraised property values. For seniors, exemptions that may be especially beneficial include the Residence Homestead Exemption, the Age 65 or Older Exemption and Disabled Veteran’s Exemption. In Georgetown, applications for exemptions are filed with the Williamson County Appraisal District.
To assist seniors in receiving all of the exemptions they may be entitled to, Seniors Living Smarter hosted our Seniors Living Smarter Webinar on April 15 — “Learning your way around Texas property taxes.” Presented via Zoom, the webinar was hosted by Virginia Lazenby, founder of Seniors Living Smarter, and featured expert panelists, Harry Gibbs, Board of Directors Vice Chairman, Williamson Central Appraisal District and Wende Wood, Escrow Officer, Austin Title.
Panelists provided detailed explanations about the appraisal process, with specifics for understanding the recently mailed 2021 Notice of Appraised Value sent to homeowners on March 31, 2021. While Harry Gibbs provided details about the appraisal process, Wendy Wood gave insights into how tax payments and escrow impact real estate transactions from both the sellers and buyers side of a property sale. In addition, Harry referred readers to other online sources of Texas Property Tax information:
