New Year Goals or Resolutions?

Are you a goal setter or resolution maker? I’m a goal setter and now that the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over, I have gotten busy setting goals for the new year.  I know, I know, many of you may be thinking the time to set goals for the upcoming year is before the new year even hits!  Well, the last quarter of 2018 was full of challenges for me but I’m happy to say that those challenges are behind me and I’m ready to get started on the new year.

What are the steps to making goals that stick and are actionable?  That’s a great question! I have found that making short-term goals (10 months), one-year goals and long-term goals work best for me.  How do you make your goals?  I enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishing the short-term goals I set for myself and those accomplishments give me the fortitude to push myself to complete all my goals.

It’s interesting, as I work with seniors who are downsizing, a short-term goal, like simply cleaning out a closet brings them such a feeling of relief.  Checking an item off the list is exciting and motivates them to achieve their BIG goal of moving to a more manageable residence.  Writing a list is a big help too, for many people, a to do list is a daily action and very similar to goal setting.  I guess you could look at it as goal setting on an extremely short-term basis.

What are your goals for 2019? Do you plan to travel, save money, organize your house or move to a new residence?  If you haven’t taken the time to write down your goals for the new year, I encourage you take some time for yourself today and do just that.

If any of your goals involve downsizing your house, I offer 5 Easy Steps to Downsizing that has proved to be beneficial for many.  You can get the free brochure from my website SeniorsLivingSmarter.com.  If you have already decided that this is the year to make some big changes and need a downsizing coach, call me Virginia Lazenby today and we can develop a plan of action that will fit your goals.
