Russians Invade The Georgetown Festival of The Arts!

troikalogoLast year, French composers were featured by organizers of The Georgetown Festival of The Arts. Now, here come the great Russian composers — Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Arensky — for a four-day tribute at various venues throughout Georgetown. Whether you’re an aficianado of Russian classics, or just appreciate magnificent music performed by major talent, it’s a great time to expand your Georgetown retirement lifestyle.

Festival 2013: A RUSSIAN TROIKA features performances and symposia throughout the extended weekend from Thursday, May 30 through Sunday, June 2, all focused on the works of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Arensky. Performers include:

  • Nicholas Canellakis, cello
  • Adam Neiman, piano
  • Elizabeth Pitcairn, violin
  • Toby Blumenthal, piano
  • Hai Zheng, cello
  • Bruce Cain, baritone
  • Kathryn Findlen, mezzo soprano
  • Virginia Dupuy, mezzo soprano
  • Kiyoshi Tamagawa, piano
  • The Georgetown and East View High Schools Band, Choir and Orchestra
  • Strings of the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra
  • The San Gabriel Chorale

One of the festival highlights every year is the fireworks display following the close of Saturday night’s outdoor performance. This year’s program —“Russian Around the Park” at the Gazebo in San Gabriel Park — is a free performance starting at 8:00 PM.
